Bridals at the Capitol

Photographers specializing in certain fields and in certain regional areas have what I call their "rite-of-passage" type of shots.  Iconic places that fit their "genre" -- like a landscape photographer's first trip to Yosemite or the Grand Canyon; or a travel photographer's first look at the Eiffel Tower through their lens.

Okay, so this isn't quite that iconic.  But as a Utah wedding photographer, there are certain places that are common for bridal sittings and the like.  Thanksgiving Point Gardens, White Willow Reception Center, Provo's Castle Park.  And one is the Capitol building in Salt Lake City.  I finally got to check that one off my list this past weekend in a belated bridal sitting for a recently married couple.  One thing I ended up loving about it, as a photographer (besides all the beautiful marble, of course) was the amazing lighting.

Happy birthday to my little sister!

My younger sister Kaitlin is one of my favorite people in the world.  Despite the gap in our ages, we are very close and adore each other 100%.  She turns 22 today and I thought I'd post a photo I got of her a few years back.  She's a theater major and a wonderful performer.  This shot sort of captures the fun-loving, vivacious, and silly spirit that she has.

Detail-Oriented

As a photographer, and specifically a wedding photographer, it is important to learn to focus on the little details.  The bride and groom put a lot of effort into creating a beautiful day, and the details are one of my favorite things to capture.

Happy World Photography Day!

Today is World Photography Day.  This is truly my kind of holiday!  A day to celebrate those who labor at the fine skills of photography in order to create beautiful and lasting memories to treasure forever.

I am posting two of my favorite waterfall shots.  I don't often do panoramics, but these have a special place in my heart -- not least because I adore waterfalls, and these are two of my all-time favorites.  The first is Fall Creek Falls, and the second is Middle North Falls in Silver Falls State Park.  Both are located in Oregon.

"I Do"

As a photographer in Utah, I rarely get the opportunity to actually shoot a wedding ceremony.  This weekend I was honored to shoot a beautiful wedding in California.  It was a unique and fantastic experience.

Calming

After a long Saturday of shooting BYU Summer DanceSport Challenge, and then a couple of days of steady processing and posting the resulting photos...I figured it was time for a little break.  A calming influence, if you will.  If I were to meditate and go to a calm environment in my mind, it might well be someplace like this.  The shots were takeni n Alaska, on one of the most peaceful and beautiful days of my life.

I definitely feel a little less stressed.  :-)
